Welcome to the Children's Ministry of Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church

The Children's Ministry staff and volunteers of Second-Ponce de Leon welcome you and look forward to serving you. Whether you are a new member or a guest, we are here to provide for your child's needs during his or her time with us.

Our mission in the Children's Ministry is to supplement the family as they lay down a spiritual foundation that, in God's timing, will lead a child into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Jesus said, “ Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (Mark 10:14). At Second-Ponce we believe that children are an integral part of our church family and seek to provide opportunities to nurture their growth.

Sunday Morning at Second-Ponce
Children's Sunday School meets from 9:45-10:45a.m.

For our littlest ones, we offer care in a happy, healthy, secure environment. We understand the importance of a child's early years, and we support parents by planning learning and growing experiences for your children each time they are at our church.

Our workers include a paid staff and also parent volunteers. We make it possible for parents and grandparents to be involved in church activities without worry about the safety of their young children. We utilize a security system with beepers and sign-in forms each week. We make loving care and safety high priorities.

  • Infants begin their Sunday School careers in Room C108 of the Children's Building. They are moved to Room C106 when they sit up well and begin to crawl. Creepers stay in Room C106 until they can walk well. The children are then moved to Room C102 until the September after their 2nd birthday, when they begin the yearly promotion according to ages or grade levels.

  • Preschool children meet in classes on the first floor of the Children's Building. Room numbers are posted for each age. Children under the age of 4 stay in the preschool area for the entire time of church and Sunday School.

  • Children in grades K-5 attend Sunday School classes based on ages and grade levels and are led by teachers with a true heart for ministering to children. Each class uses a curriculum written for the child’s age level that encourages learning through stories, games, and crafts. It is an exciting time for children as they develop and grow in their Christian faith.
    • Kindergarteners attend Sunday School in Room C301
    • 1st and 2nd Graders attend Sunday School in Room C303
    • 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders attend Sunday School in Room C305

Sunday Morning Worship
8:45 a.m. Chapel and 11 a.m. Sanctuary

  • Does Second-Ponce offer a time for children’s only Worship?
Yes, Children's Worship is offered during the school year at our 11 a.m. Morning Worship Service. You and your child sit as a family during the praise and singing portion of the service in order to experience corporate worship. At the designated time, children leave with their leader for an age appropriate sermon time in Room C302 of the Children’s Building.
  • Who may attend Children's Worship?
    Children Kindergarten through 2nd grade.
  • What does worship time for children consist of?
Age-appropriate activities help the children hear the morning’s Sermon Scripture text in a way they can understand so that parents can engage their children in conversation as a family about what they learned at church. This time is also a good opportunity for children to learn about elements of a worship service to help them understand why we sing, pray, give an offering, read from the Bible. Children’s Worship helps children know that they are special and unique, and that God has a plan for each of them.

We are delighted to have children in our worship services. We believe that children are important to our church family. We find that they contribute their unique perspective while they are learning from the worshipping community. A child of any age may attend the worship service. However, childcare is provided for preschoolers (ages birth–Pre-K) throughout the service.

To aid in the worship experience of children in the worship service, worship bags are available in the Narthex. These bags contain colored pencils, a drawing pad, children’s bulletins, a weekly quiz, and bookmarks to mark the hymns and Scripture passages. Please return the worship bag to the rack at the conclusion of the service. At Second-Ponce de Leon, we also believe in the gift of literature and reading. A book cart is available for your child to choose a book to read during the service as well.
